Audley End House is a great house to explore from top to bottom. The state rooms are decorated with fine furniture and works of art, while the 1830s nursery lets children try on costumes and play with replica toys. Upstairs, the Coal Gallery shows how servants kept the house stocked, and the Service Wing recreates life "below stairs" during the 1880s as the domain of Mrs Avis Crocombe, the Victorian cook. The resident horses are in their grand stables. The grounds were designed by Capability Brown and include acres of parkland with an adventure playground, a World Builder trail, and a second-hand bookshop.
