Coggeshall Museum is a small, volunteer-run museum in an annexe beside the village hall in the centre of this Essex town. Its displays cover the local history of Coggeshall, including lace-making, the wool and straw trades, farming and industry, and well-known local Quaker families. Because the collection is built from items donated by residents, the displays change from time to time, so each visit can turn up something new. Children who enjoy old photographs, objects and stories about how a town used to work will find plenty to look at, and the museum is an easy add-on to a walk around the town's listed buildings. The museum is compact and quiet, so it suits a short, relaxed visit rather than a long day out. Free leaflets for self-guided town walks are available from the museum.
