Facilities
We haven’t checked this venue’s facilities yet. Give them a ring if something specific matters for your visit.
The museum occupies Ad Astra House, which was once the Station Office of RAF North Weald and sits beside the airfield's original main entrance. Its ground floor is arranged as five themed rooms plus a connecting corridor, combining photographs, artefacts, squadron histories, maps and wartime equipment. The stories cover the people who served and lived on the station, from the First World War through the Battle of Britain and into the post-war jet age. It is a quiet, compact place, so it suits older children with an interest in history or aviation, and it pairs well with a wander around the active airfield, where visitors can often watch vintage and classic aircraft flying at weekends. The museum is a registered charity run entirely by volunteers, so opening days are limited and it is worth checking before a visit. There are no full-size aircraft on display indoors.
Questions parents ask
- Is there anywhere to eat at the museum?
- The museum itself does not have a café, but Rosey Lea is located at the airfield and serves tea, coffee, afternoon tea, and lunch.
- Can I visit with a group outside normal opening hours?
- Groups can request out-of-hours visits at any time during the year; email the museum to enquire whether volunteers are available to accommodate your visit.
- Should I check we're open before visiting?
- It is advisable to check in advance that the museum is open, as volunteer availability can be limited and occasions arise when they cannot attend.
