Facilities
We haven’t checked this venue’s facilities yet. Give them a ring if something specific matters for your visit.
The Maeldune Heritage Centre occupies the ground floor of the old tower of St Peter's Church in Maldon, now part of Thomas Plume's Library. Its centrepiece is the 42-foot Maldon Embroidery, made to mark the thousandth anniversary of the Battle of Maldon, and the displays around it explain the battle and the town's story from its early history through its maritime, salt and industrial past. Families with older children studying history can use the displays alongside the centre's primary school Saxon and Viking project pack. The ground floor also hosts changing exhibitions of local art and crafts, such as textile and stitching shows, so there is usually something new to look at. Entry is free, with donations welcomed, and the visit suits a short, relaxed stop during a day in the historic town centre rather than a long outing.
