The car park directly outside the museum is council-controlled with a 3-hour limit between 8am and 8pm. Several other free car parks are in Uppermill, including one about a 5 to 10 minute walk away near the Saddleworth Pool and Leisure Centre. Nearest railway station is Greenfield, about half a mile away; bus stops are within 200 yards.

Saddleworth Museum and Gallery occupies part of a restored mill building on the High Street in Uppermill, beside the Huddersfield Narrow Canal. Its galleries over two floors tell the story of the people, events and history that shaped the Saddleworth landscape, with wool weaving and textile machinery central to the story. Several areas are interactive, and a walk-in Victorian parlour lets visitors step into a period room and touch some of the items. The Art Gallery hosts regular exhibitions and special events through the year. It suits a family looking for an indoor outing that can be paired with a walk along the canal towpath or a wander around the village.
