Hall i' th' Wood is a Tudor timber-framed manor house in Bolton, now run as a museum by Bolton Libraries and Museums. Its rooms hold seventeenth and early eighteenth century furniture, objects and artefacts, and tell the story of Samuel Crompton, who lived here as a young man and later invented the spinning mule. The house is on two floors with uneven floors and several steps, so it suits older children and adults with an interest in local history and old buildings more than families looking for hands-on play. Children's ear defenders can be borrowed, and the museum has baby changing in its toilets. The museum's own site says it is closed for essential maintenance until further notice, so check before planning a visit.
