Whitworth Art Gallery

The Whitworth is a free art gallery set in Whitworth Park on the University of Manchester campus. Its collection of prints, textiles and wallpapers is shown through rotating temporary exhibitions rather than permanent displays, so there is always something new to look at. Families are welcomed through a family programme of drop-in creative play, including a loose parts play area, a sensory space for babies and toddlers, and occasional sessions for families with additional needs. Glass-fronted galleries open onto the parkland and the Art Garden, so a visit can mix indoor looking with time outside. A café with views over the trees and a gallery shop make it easy to stay for a relaxed couple of hours. Some activities are scheduled for particular weeks, so check what is on before travelling with younger children.
