The Pankhurst Centre is a small heritage museum in a restored Victorian terraced house where Emmeline Pankhurst and her family lived from the late 1890s. Visitors walk through the rooms, including the parlour where the first meeting of the movement that became the suffragettes took place, and see original furniture and personal items from the family. Exhibitions cover the campaign for women's right to vote and the wider history of women's activism, with a focus on the domestic life behind the campaign. The site sits in the grounds of Manchester Royal Infirmary, and a small garden with suffragette-themed benches is nearby. It suits older children and teenagers studying history or citizenship, and adults with an interest in women's history, though the visit is short and quiet. The building is also the headquarters of a women's charity, so it is run largely by volunteers and open only on set days.
