Torre Abbey is a medieval abbey founded in 1196 and now run as a museum and art gallery by Torbay Council. Inside, families can see medieval and Georgian rooms, a large art collection and a changing programme of exhibitions that mixes international shows with work by local and emerging artists. The site runs family activities and trails through the year, and it is a popular place for school groups. The grounds include formal gardens, a medieval garden, a walled garden and a Victorian palm house, so there is room to wander between indoor rooms. A café serves light meals and treats. The museum is a good choice for a rainy afternoon, and younger visitors can use buggies on the main route. Lifts reach the floors of the main building.
Lift out of service at time of reading (venue notice). Burne-Jones Gallery temporarily relocated, with reopening stated as 1 December (year not given). Check before travelling.
