Bygones is a multi-floor museum of everyday life from the Victorian era through to the 1960s, housed in a former cinema. The centrepiece is a full-size Victorian street with shops, a forge and a sweet shop, alongside period rooms showing how homes looked across different decades. Children often enjoy the large model railway, the railwayana collection and a walk-through First World War trench. A 1940s and 1950s shopping arcade and vintage penny-operated amusements add a playful touch. The exhibits are mostly viewed from walkways rather than handled, which suits school-age children studying history as well as families looking for a relaxed indoor visit. A tearoom on the upper floor serves refreshments, and the venue is known for welcoming dogs throughout the building.
