Killerton is a National Trust estate on the edge of Exeter, built around a Georgian house, a historic landscape garden and a wide spread of parkland and woodland. Families can wander the garden paths, follow waymarked walks through the trees and grass, and let children run free in the open spaces. There are two play areas: one behind the stable courtyard with a slide and climbing wall for younger children, and another with swings in a leafy corner near the car park. Inside the house, the ground floor shows how a family home looked in the 1920s and 1930s, and a fashion exhibition is displayed upstairs. Older children may enjoy spotting the Highland cows that graze the parkland. Cafés, a shop and a second-hand bookshop sit in the old stable block, and dogs are welcome outside on short leads.
