What’s there
- Limited parking
- Dogs welcome
Small National Trust car park beside the Old Forge (donations; only about six spaces, often full). Overflow in the village hall car park (donation). No parking at the mill itself. A private pay-and-display car park by the beach is not National Trust.
Only facilities we’ve confirmed are listed — anything missing here we simply haven’t checked, rather than know to be absent.
Manor Mill is a restored, working 19th-century watermill in the village of Branscombe, looked after by the National Trust. When it is open, the waterwheel drives the grinding stones, so older children can see how grain was once turned into flour in the village. It stands in a valley beside a thatched former bakery and a working blacksmith's forge, and the wider village has a shingle beach on the Jurassic Coast with rock pools to explore at low tide. Nearby orchards, woodland and farmland paths give families room to run about afterwards. The mill is small and quiet, so it suits families who enjoy heritage, machinery and a gentle outing rather than a busy attraction. Dogs on leads are welcome in the mill. Access to the mill is on foot along an uneven track, and opening is limited to certain afternoons, so check before you travel.
Mill opens seasonally (roughly April to October) on afternoons only; Forge and countryside are open at other times.
