What’s there

Morwellham Quay is a restored 19th-century river port beside the Tamar, set in a World Heritage landscape. Visitors wander a recreated Victorian village, the docks and quays, a restored sailing ship and the old ore-crushing machinery, with costumed staff and hands-on activities such as bread and rope making, panning for gold, blacksmithing and pottery. A small battery train takes visitors into the George and Charlotte copper mine, where the working conditions of Victorian miners are explained. Younger children tend to enjoy the indoor Miners Adventure Play area, and the site has a pub, a brewery and a farm area. Because much of the site is outdoors over uneven paths, slopes and steps, families should wear sensible footwear and plan for a full day of walking.
