A small museum on the working Dunkeswell Airfield that tells the story of the Second World War base, once the only US Navy air base in Europe. Inside, families can look at a large collection of wartime photographs, replica uniforms, models, dioramas and archive film, with a short film and a narrative that follow the U-boat hunting missions flown from the airfield. Older children with an interest in planes, history or the war often find the displays the most engaging part of the visit. Light aircraft, microlights and parachutists are often seen landing and taking off from the airfield while you are there. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Each visit takes an hour or two, and the nearby coffee bar serves food and drink for a family lunch. The centre is run entirely by volunteers and admission is by donation.
