What’s there

  • Dogs welcome

Only facilities we’ve confirmed are listed — anything missing here we simply haven’t checked, rather than know to be absent.

A small heritage centre tucked inside the parish church in the Exmoor-edge town of Bampton. The centre presents the town's story through local artefacts, information boards, short films and an eight-foot model of the old railway station, which shows the platforms and sidings as they were before the line closed. Families are catered for with a children's quiz trail that sends young visitors hunting for hidden objects around the centre, a family town trail and quiz, and dressing-up costumes. Visitors can also watch recorded oral histories, browse old photographs of the town and buy local books, walking maps and gifts. Guided town trails run in the warmer months, usually on set dates, and the centre doubles as a tourist information point. Opening days are limited, so it suits a short, relaxed visit rather than a full day out, and is best paired with a walk around the town.
