The Colyton Heritage Centre is the home of Colyton Parish History Society and occupies the Merchant's House on Market Place in the middle of the historic town. It is a compact museum: a couple of rooms hold displays of local archive documents, old photographs, maps and artefacts, along with wall panels and a touchscreen that lets visitors explore Colyton's story. A Tudor fireplace and a medieval wall painting are among the period features of the building. Because the centre is small, a family visit tends to be short and suits children with an interest in local history, castles-and-rebellion stories and old objects. Volunteers staff the centre and are happy to answer questions. Gifts and local books are on sale. The town's guided history walks are run by the society separately and are worth pairing with a visit.
