Ugbrooke House is a historic family home set in a 3,000-acre estate in a valley outside Chudleigh. The house was remodelled by Robert Adam in the 1760s and holds paintings, period furniture, ceramics and military items gathered over generations. Guided house tours take visitors through rooms on the ground and first floors, and the gardens include a lavender parterre, a maze, a fernery and a walled garden. Paths wind through woodland and along the lakes that Capability Brown created, which suits families who want to stretch their legs and explore. The estate has run seasonal children's trails with a costumed wyvern character and a certificate at the end, and an Orangery tearoom serves light lunches and cream teas. Opening is seasonal and mostly summer-based, so families should check the calendar before travelling.
House Opening runs in summer only; family trails and workshops run on specific dates such as October half term and Christmas.
