Topsham Museum is a small local history museum set in a late 17th-century merchant's house on The Strand, the historic waterfront of Topsham. Its main focus is the town's past as a port and shipbuilding centre, shown through a River Gallery with historic river craft, a Sail Loft with a timeline of the town, and furnished period rooms of the original house, including a 1930s kitchen. Families can also look at Exe Estuary wildlife displays, a doll's house from the late 1800s, and memorabilia linked to the film star Vivien Leigh. A riverside garden sits alongside the building and the museum runs free guided tours and self-guided trail walks around the town. The building is currently closed for major structural repairs, so check the museum's own site before planning a visit.
