Knightshayes is a National Trust estate on the outskirts of Tiverton, built around a Victorian Gothic Revival house designed by William Burges. Families can tour the ground floor of the house, which is full of decorative detail and includes a portrait thought to be by Rembrandt, and the first floor reopens for part of the year. Outside there is a large garden with several separate areas, a restored Victorian walled kitchen garden and miles of parkland and woodland walks to explore. Children have a woodland adventure play area in Douglas Fir Walk with climbing and balancing challenges. There is a café in the stables with child-friendly lunch boxes, a second-hand bookshop and a plant centre. Seasonal events such as autumn trails and Christmas illuminations run through the year, so the estate suits a relaxed family day whatever the weather.
Christmas illuminations in December; first floor of the house reopens from 14 February per the venue's page.
