No parking on the museum site on weekdays. On Saturdays, parking is available at the Orchard car park (sat nav CM2 6DN, Kingston Crescent). Free accessible parking bays are a short walk from the entrance.

The Essex Police Museum is a volunteer-run museum on the Essex Police headquarters site at Springfield in Chelmsford. It tells the story of the county's police force from the Victorian era to the present day, drawing on a collection of more than 25,000 artefacts. Families with older children and anyone interested in local history will find the displays of objects, photographs and records absorbing. Visitors can listen to short audio episodes linked to each display, and a touch-box of handleable items is available for those with visual impairments. Monthly sensory-friendly sessions turn off sounds and spotlights for a calmer visit, and sensory packs are available to all visitors. Because the museum is staffed by volunteers, it opens only on Saturdays and on school-holiday Wednesdays, with pre-booked visits possible on weekdays.
