What’s there

  • Picnic area

Only facilities we’ve confirmed are listed — anything missing here we simply haven’t checked, rather than know to be absent.

A small heritage museum set in the former Mark Hall stables, with galleries that trace Harlow's story from the Iron Age through Roman, Tudor and Victorian periods to the New Town. Highlights include finds from a Roman temple site, a collection of historic bicycles including penny-farthings, and fossils and rocks from the area's prehistory. Families can wander the walled gardens, which include an unusual fruit garden, a 17th-century style garden and a peace garden with sculptures and outdoor seating. The site has a picnic area and a quiet reading room for family history research. Staff and volunteers run occasional family activities and workshops, and the grounds host seasonal events such as winter festivals. Entry is free, so it suits a relaxed visit of an hour or two, particularly for school-age children curious about local history.
