The Great Dunmow Maltings is a restored historic building on Mill Lane in the centre of the market town. Its ground floor houses the Great Dunmow Museum, which shows artefacts and displays about the history of the town. Children can look at the Flitch Chair used in the town's famous Flitch Trials, an 1850 fire engine and a historic lantern clock. Entry to the museum is free, with donations welcome, so it suits a short family visit on a weekend. The upper hall is used for classes, parties, markets and community events, and the venue hosts a monthly handmade-goods market on Saturdays. The building is wheelchair accessible and parking is available opposite in the White Street car park.
