Restoration House is a historic townhouse just outside the old city wall in central Rochester. Its name comes from a stay by Charles II in 1660, and it is also the building that many readers associate with Miss Havisham's home in Dickens' Great Expectations. Visitors can walk through rooms with restored period decoration, English furniture and paintings, and then spend time in a walled garden of about three-quarters of an acre, with formal parterres, a long pond, a cutting garden and a Mediterranean pot garden. It suits families with older children who enjoy history, literary connections and quiet outdoor space, and it is a short walk from Rochester High Street. Tickets are sold on arrival for individual visitors, and the house opens on a limited seasonal pattern, so check before travelling.

Seasonal opening, June to September 2026 as above; April guided group tours by arrangement.
