Chart Gunpowder Mills is one of the few restored gunpowder mills left in Britain, sitting a short walk from Faversham town centre. The Faversham Society rescued the mill buildings from neglect and opened them to visitors, so the site now shows how gunpowder was mixed and incorporated with water-powered machinery. Inside, a scale model of the mill machinery helps younger visitors picture how the wheels and stones worked, and displays cover the people who worked in the local explosives industry. The site is small and quiet, suiting curious older children, teenagers and adults who enjoy industrial history. It works well alongside a walk along the town's gunpowder trail. Because the opening days are limited and the mill is seasonal, families should check the current position before travelling.
Seasonal opening. The venue's site states Chart Mills is closed until Easter 2027.
