Lydd Town Museum occupies the old fire station on Queen's Road, beside the green known as The Rype. Run by the Friends of Lydd, a registered charity, it has five rooms of local objects, photographs and displays covering the town's history and the wider Romney Marsh area. Highlights include historic fire-fighting equipment and horse-drawn vehicles, which tend to appeal to younger visitors. Displays are refreshed regularly, so return visits can turn up new material. Children visiting can take part in the Wheels of Time scheme, which invites children aged 5 to 11 to collect a museum badge and follow a trail. The museum is small and volunteer-staffed, so opening is limited to particular days and a free visit is run on donations. It suits families with an interest in local history on a relaxed afternoon out.
