A volunteer-run museum on the site of the former RAF Manston airfield, telling the story of the base from the First World War through the Battle of Britain and the Cold War to modern search and rescue. Visitors can see large aircraft such as a Handley Page Victor and an English Electric Canberra, a Vulcan, and a range of cockpit sections, models and engine components. There are military vehicles on display, including WWI trucks used in a well-known film, and a NAAFI cafe on site. The museum runs themed family weekends, model and vehicle shows and a Santa event in December, and it welcomes school and group visits. Children's and family tickets are available, and under-fives are admitted free, so it suits a rainy-day outing for older children who enjoy planes, engines and history.
