Romney Marsh Wartime Collection

A volunteer-run museum on the Romney Marsh, housed in a former Women's Land Army hostel built during the Second World War. Its collection includes wartime equipment, remains recovered from aircraft crash sites, uniforms and personal items donated by local families, with stories from both world wars. Aircraft displays such as cockpit and fuselage sections give younger visitors something concrete to look at, and the museum sits beside the site of a former wartime landing ground. Exhibits are arranged in themed areas, so a visit suits older children with an interest in history and planes as well as adults. There is a café in a 1940s-style hut, a small gift shop and plenty of parking. The museum is open at weekends through the spring and summer, and on Mondays during school and public holidays, so it is worth checking the calendar before travelling.
