A small local history museum housed in the old gatehouse beside Minster Abbey on the Isle of Sheppey. The building is medieval, and its rooms hold a mix of archaeological finds, fossils, pilgrim crosses, old costumes, kitchen items, paintings and a long run of local newspapers. A painted timeline of the island runs up the spiral stairwell, which is a good talking point for children, and a climb to the roof gives wide views over the island and the surrounding marshes. There is a small children's trail to find eight nuns hidden around the displays, and the museum takes part in the Wheels of Time scheme for children aged 5 to 11. It suits families with older children or anyone curious about local history, as the stairs are steep and the rooms are compact. It is run largely by volunteers and opens only on certain days.
