Godinton House & Gardens is a historic house set in ancient parkland just north-west of Ashford. Visitors can join a guided tour through the house, which is built around a medieval great hall and holds a collection of furniture, art, porcelain and curiosities spanning several centuries. Outside, the gardens cover around twelve acres and include a yew hedge, Italian and walled gardens, a rose garden, ponds and a wilder area, so there is plenty of space for children to explore on a summer afternoon. The estate runs an education programme and family workshops, including home education sessions and pond dipping, and the tearoom serves refreshments to visitors. It suits families who enjoy history and gentle outdoor walks rather than rides or play equipment. The gardens and house have seasonal opening days, so check the calendar before travelling.

Seasonal opening March to October; house open only on Fridays and Saturdays in the season.
