The Sandwich Medieval Centre is a living history visitor centre housed in a wooden boatyard building on the slipway by the Quay in Sandwich. It is run by a charitable trust that aims to teach the public about the late medieval period, with a focus on the town's own heritage. Visitors can watch a blacksmith working in the forge, see baking in the wood-fired oven, and look at craft demonstrations such as calligraphy, wheat weaving and egg tempera painting. Costumed volunteers bring the displays to life, and there are hands-on moments that suit younger visitors. Special events through the year bring re-enactors, crafts and medieval entertainment to the site and the neighbouring quay green. Outside the building, a replica medieval cog is being built alongside the centre. Entry is free. Craft workshops need advance booking, and the centre also welcomes school visits and group sessions.
