A compact local history museum housed in the former doctor's home and surgery that now serves as Hythe Town Council's offices, reached through the town library. Displays trace the story of Hythe from Roman times through its years as a Cinque Port, with maps, furniture, costume, civic objects and a collection tied to the Small Arms School that trained musketry instructors in the town for over a century. Younger visitors can look for a hidden badge code among the exhibits, and there is a dressing-up box with hats and pretend Roman, Viking and knight helmets for groups. Families with older children may enjoy the weapons displays and the old ranges, while smaller ones can take in the hats and everyday objects. The museum is compact, so a visit suits a relaxed hour rather than a full day, and it sits well alongside a walk along the canal or a stroll up to the church and the sea views.
