Tenterden & District Museum is a small local history museum housed in a weather-boarded building near the High Street in the Kentish Weald. Its exhibits are spread across six rooms on two floors and tell the story of the town and the Cinque Ports, from Roman-era remains through to everyday domestic and working life in past centuries. A large tapestry depicting scenes from Tenterden's history is among the highlights. Families with children can follow the mouse trail through the building and look for the History Explorers badge, which marks puzzles, games and hands-on activities placed around the rooms. Holiday activities such as archaeology and living-history weaving run during school holidays, and a family history trail covers the town itself. The museum is run entirely by volunteers and is an Arts Council accredited museum, so visits are relaxed and unhurried, and the stewards are happy to help. It suits rainy days, school history projects and older children with an interest in the past.
