St Margaret's Museum sits on the Pines Garden site above St Margaret's Bay, a few minutes from the shingle beach and the chalk cliffs. It is a compact museum with changing displays on the history of the village, including its wartime story and the local connections to the writers Ian Fleming and Noel Coward. Environmental and natural history themes also appear in the displays. Because it is small, a visit fits easily alongside a walk around the gardens, the lake and the grass labyrinth, or a stop at the tea room that shares the building. Older children who enjoy history, and younger ones who like looking at old objects and photographs, tend to find something to hold their interest. The museum is run by the Bay Trust, a local charity that also looks after the gardens and the cafe. Visitors should check the current opening days before setting out, as the site is open on a limited weekly pattern.
