Sandwich Guildhall Museum sits in the heart of the old Cinque Port town, inside a Tudor-era municipal building in the Cattle Market. Its displays follow Sandwich through many periods, from early prehistoric finds through medieval documents and Georgian and Victorian life to the wartime years. Families can see Roman treasures, unusual objects such as a preserved rat that links to medieval Sandwich, and a historic courtroom that is open to visitors when it is not in use. The museum runs a Wheels of Time scheme for young visitors, and it sometimes hosts children's trails and seasonal activities. The building is compact, so a visit suits a relaxed hour rather than a full day, and it works well alongside a walk around the town's medieval streets and riverside.
