Official car park is at Marsden railway station, about a 15-minute towpath walk away. Four dedicated disabled bays are available at Standedge near the Watersedge Coffee House.
Only facilities we’ve confirmed are listed — anything missing here we simply haven’t checked, rather than know to be absent.
Standedge Tunnel sits on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal at Marsden, where the canal passes under the Pennine hills towards Diggle. The visitor centre is a converted canal warehouse with displays on the tunnel's construction, its restoration and the wider canal, and it suits families who want a relaxed, educational outing by the water. The main draw for children is the short boat ride into the tunnel, a guided trip that explains how the tunnel was built and the lives of the workers who dug it. Longer one-way trips run on selected dates for older visitors and paddlers, and there is a canalside towpath for a stroll. A coffee house beside the tunnel mouth serves food and drink on days when boats are running. Many boat trips are run by volunteers, so the day's programme can change at short notice.
Discovery boat rides run most Fridays, Saturdays and some Sundays; extra trips in school holidays. Through-tunnel trips run on set dates in 2026 (April to October). Visitor centre opens on boat-trip days.
