Colne Valley Museum occupies a row of Grade II listed weavers' cottages built into a steep hillside in Golcar. Rooms are furnished to show how a handloom weaving family lived around 1840, with a spinning jenny, a handloom, a weaver's sitting room and a gas-lit clogger's shop. Volunteers in period costume demonstrate spinning, weaving and clogging, so younger visitors can see the crafts at work rather than only reading about them. The museum runs children's craft activities during school holidays and welcomes school groups, who can take a day modelled on a Victorian weaving household. Temporary exhibitions use the restored rooms, and there is a small shop and a tea room on site. It suits families interested in local industrial history and a quiet, hands-on afternoon out.
