Castleford Museum takes visitors through around 15,000 years of local history, from prehistoric and Roman objects through to the coal mining, potteries and glassworks that shaped the town. The museum occupies the upper floor of a historic library building, so the galleries feel compact and easy to explore with younger children. There are dressing-up items, historical toys, interactive displays and a collection of history books for different age ranges, along with kids' craft sheets. Family craft sessions run on Saturdays, and a quieter relaxed opening takes place on Friday mornings, including during school holidays, with extra trails for SEND families at those times. Entry is free and no booking is needed. The museum has no café of its own, so families should plan to eat nearby in the town centre.
