Churchill War Rooms is a set of wartime basement offices beneath Whitehall that served as a government command centre during the Second World War. The rooms have been kept much as they were when the lights went out in 1945, so visitors can walk through the Cabinet War Rooms, including the Map Room and Churchill's bedroom, and then move on to the Churchill Museum. The museum follows Winston Churchill's life through personal items, artefacts and an illuminated timeline. The Imperial War Museums site presents the attraction as one for families, with reduced prices for children aged 5 to 15 and an invitation to discover and learn together on site. Much of the route is underground, so it suits children who are comfortable in enclosed spaces and older children interested in history. The attraction is indoors and operates rain or shine, which makes it a useful option on a wet day in central London.
