Sambourne House is a late Victorian townhouse in Kensington that was the family home of Edward Linley Sambourne, the illustrator and cartoonist who worked for Punch. Its rooms are furnished and decorated in the Aesthetic style, with patterned wallpapers, Japanese prints and ornate furniture, and much of the original interior survives. Visitors move through the dining room, drawing room, bedrooms and studio, which gives older children a clear picture of how a well-off Victorian household lived. The house also holds cartoons, pictures and photographs by Sambourne and his circle. It sits close to the Leighton House museum, and the two can be visited together. The museum is run by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, which publishes its opening pattern on its museums pages.
