The Thackray Museum of Medicine is a hands-on museum beside St James's Hospital in Leeds. Its galleries walk visitors through the history of healthcare, from a recreated Victorian street scene to a 19th-century operating theatre and a 1970s-style clinic. Families tend to enjoy the interactive displays, and the museum runs school-holiday activities built around a different medical theme each holiday, with talks and workshops alongside. Younger children can also use a separate soft play area called Sparks!, which can be visited without paying museum entry. The museum says it is fully wheelchair and buggy accessible, and it holds quiet openings on the last Sunday of each month. Allow at least two hours for a full visit.
