A unique underground experience, the Skelmorlie Secret Bunker offers a fully restored nuclear monitoring post where visitors can see original equipment used to gauge ground‑zero, blast and fallout from a nuclear attack. Guided by former Royal Observer Corps members of 25 Group (Ayr), the hands‑on tour lets families learn how information was gathered and reported during the Cold War. The site, built in 1965 and operational until 1991, now welcomes visitors in a restored setting with a portacabin and car park added in 2017. It is ideal for those interested in history, science and the stories of the men and women who served.
Open at weekends, April to September.
