Chatham Historic Dockyard is a working dockyard set across 80 acres with three historic warships to explore: HMS Cavalier, HMS Gannet, and HM Submarine Ocelot. The site contains immersive exhibition galleries including Command of the Oceans and The Ropery, which tell the story of the dockyard and its 400 years of maritime history. You can examine objects from the collections of Royal Museums Greenwich and Imperial War Museums, explore a historic railway, and visit the RNLI Historic Lifeboat Collection. Master Ropemakers, a traditional manufacturing company, operates in the heart of the dockyard. The site also has the Commissioner's House, a Georgian and Victorian buildings complex used for events and weddings. A year-round events programme runs alongside the galleries and ships, all included with admission.
The Dockyard runs a season rather than a year: daily opening from April through November, a winter closure from November to February broken only by Mission Christmas, and variable hours in the shoulder months of February, March and November.
