Park on the grass outside the front of Grays Fire Station during open days or larger events; smaller group visits may use spaces in the yard outside the museum if free.

The Essex Fire Museum sits behind the working Grays Fire Station and tells the story of firefighting in Essex, from early hand pumps and horse-drawn appliances through to modern engines. Its collection includes historic fire engines, firefighting equipment, uniforms and a large set of local photographs, plus wartime material from the Second World War. A recreated 1930s shop front and living-history displays give younger visitors something to look at, and the volunteer team runs themed family open days with arts and crafts, hands-on activities and chances to sit on the engines. Because it is on an operational fire station, every visit must be booked in advance. The museum is all on one level and suits school groups, families and anyone curious about the history of the fire service.
