Brentwood Museum is a small local history museum housed in the lodge of a Victorian cemetery on Lorne Road, a short walk up from Brentwood station. Its displays cover everyday life in what became a comfortable dormitory town, with hundreds of household items, reminders of the town's military and industrial past, and material from its well-known schools and hospitals. A cabinet of curiosities, a collection of photographs of Brentwood through the decades and wartime artefacts add to the mix. The museum is compact, so a visit suits curious older children and families who enjoy looking at old objects and asking questions about how people lived. Admission is free, with donations welcome. The surrounding cemetery is also a nature reserve, which makes a stroll there a natural pairing with a visit. The museum opens only on certain weekends and Monday mornings during the season, so check before travelling.
