St John's Jerusalem is a small historic site where families can see a rare surviving 13th-century chapel, once part of a preceptory of the Knights Hospitallers, and walk through a secluded garden set within a moat fed by the River Darent. The garden has a variety of paths, fruit trees, wildflowers and seats, so it suits a relaxed picnic and a slow wander with younger children who like watching wildlife and water. The chapel is reached by steep steps and the site is quiet rather than busy, so it works best for families who enjoy history and calm outdoor space rather than rides or play equipment. Access is limited to a few open afternoons each year, so check before travelling. Dogs are welcome in the garden on short leads.
