A small museum housed in the original chapel and gymnasium building of the wartime Hethel airfield, south of Norwich. It commemorates the American airmen of the 389th Bomb Group who flew Liberator bombers from the base during the Second World War. Displays include original wall paintings, uniforms, decorations, combat records, photographs and everyday memorabilia donated by veterans and their families, with some items relating to the RAF and to the wider history of the airfield. Older children and anyone interested in aviation history will find plenty to look at, and a visit typically takes an hour or two. The site sits on a working farm, so it suits a relaxed, outdoor-aware trip. It opens on Sunday open days through the warmer months, with a gala day that adds vehicles, stalls and refreshments, and a Memorial Day in November.
