Congleton Museum occupies a former Victorian police station behind the town hall and tells the story of Congleton and the surrounding area, from prehistoric finds such as a medieval log boat and coin hoards through to the Civil War, the silk and textile industry and the Second World War. Several displays are interactive, and some exhibits are set at a lower height for younger visitors. Families can join seasonal activities including a Christmas grotto, a hidden-bears activity trail around the museum and art workshops linked to a local pottery exhibition. The museum also runs family activities and school workshops, so children can get hands-on with local history. Admission is free, and there is a small shop selling local history booklets and prints. It suits a relaxed indoor visit, or a short stop while exploring Congleton town centre.
