Weaver Hall occupies a former Northwich union workhouse, and the building's own history is part of the visit. Displays use films, reconstructions, models and artefacts to cover the town's salt and chemical industries, the River Weaver, local transport, market towns and archaeology. The museum has a mini-cinema, a temporary exhibition space and a coffee shop and gift shop on site, so it suits a relaxed indoor visit, especially on a wet day. It is a compact museum rather than a full day out, so it pairs well with a walk along the river or a stop in the town centre. Families can park in the large free car park, and the building has accessible toilets, designated disabled bays and a lift to the first floor.
