Nantwich Museum

Nantwich Museum tells the story of this Cheshire market town, from its Roman beginnings through the salt industry and the Civil War to later town life. It occupies a former Victorian library in the town centre and admission is free. The core displays cover salt, shoemaking and the Civil War, and there are rotating art and history exhibitions alongside them. Families can use sensory bags borrowed from the desk, which contain fidget toys, noise-cancelling headphones and calming items for children who feel overwhelmed. Most of the exhibits are on the ground floor, so the visit is compact and easy to manage with younger children. The museum runs occasional guided walks and workshops, and school groups visit on weekday mornings, so it can be busier at those times. Dogs are not admitted except assistance dogs, and the town itself has historic streets, the River Weaver and a canal towpath to explore nearby.
