A seven-acre waterside site on the Manchester Ship Canal, home to the national designated collection of waterways history. Families wander between restored Victorian warehouses and boatyard buildings, watch lock demonstrations and costumed tours, and can explore an audio trail and outdoor play area. Themed living-history events run through the year, including Sunday events. Children can take a short boat trip through the industrial landscape, and the museum has a cafe and gift shop. Dogs on leads are welcome throughout. Visits usually take two to three hours, and an annual pass allows repeat visits within a year. The museum suits families with primary-age children and anyone curious about canals and industry.
